Why gutters matter in Texas
Central Texas often gets its rain in heavy bursts. When gutters can’t keep up, water spills over the edge, splashes against the siding, soaks the ground next to the slab, and can wear away soil and landscaping. Over time that can mean rot at the fascia, stains on the walls, and puddles that sit against the foundation.
Signs your gutters need work
Walk around the house during or after a rain and look for:
- Water pouring over the edge instead of down the downspout.
- Sections that sag or pull away from the fascia board.
- Drips at seams and corners.
- Dents from hail, or downspouts that are crushed or disconnected.
- Peeling paint or soft wood behind the gutter.
Repair or replace
A loose hanger or a leaking seam can often be fixed. If the gutters are dented along their length, rusted through, or the wrong size for the roof, replacing them makes more sense. We tell you which one and why.
If you’re getting a new roof, it’s a good time to look at the gutters too, since the edge of the roof and the gutters work together.
