Many Round Rock roofs were built around the same time
Round Rock grew fast, and many subdivisions went up in waves. When a whole street of houses got its roofs in the same few years, those roofs tend to age together. If neighbors are replacing theirs, it is worth knowing where yours stands, even if it isn’t leaking yet.
That doesn’t mean your roof needs replacing just because the house next door got a new one. Roofs age differently depending on the shingle, the attic ventilation, how much shade the house gets, and what storms it has seen. The only way to know is to look at it up close.
Signs an older shingle roof is wearing out
Here’s what we look for on a roof that’s been up a while:
- Shingles curling at the edges or cupping in the middle.
- Bare spots where the granules have worn off.
- Cracked or dried-out pipe boots around plumbing vents.
- Nails backing out and lifting the shingle above them.
- Stains or soft spots on the ceiling under the attic.
Hail and wind along the I-35 corridor
Spring storms move through Williamson County like the rest of Central Texas. Hail can bruise shingles without leaving an obvious hole, and strong wind can break the seal that keeps shingle tabs flat. Damage like that may not leak right away, which is why a close look after a big storm is worth it.
After a storm, walk around the house before you call anyone:
- Shingles that are missing, lifted, folded, or sitting in the yard.
- Dents on gutters, downspouts, vents, and the AC unit, a sign hail hit the house.
- Piles of shingle granules at the bottom of the downspouts.
- Bent or loose flashing around the chimney and roof edges.
- New water stains on ceilings or around upstairs windows.
- Stay on the ground. Don’t climb a wet or damaged roof. Take photos from the yard and call us.
Repair, replace, or wait
If the trouble is one slope, a vent, or a strip of flashing, we fix that and tell you so. If the shingles are worn across the whole roof, patching it over and over costs more in the end, and we explain why. Sometimes the honest answer is that the roof is fine for now, and we say that too.
We install shingle, metal, tile, and flat roofs, and we handle the gutters, siding, and windows around them, so one visit can cover the whole outside of the house.
Insurance after a storm
We inspect storm and hail damage, document what we find with photos, and can meet your adjuster at the house. We don’t file or negotiate your claim, and nobody can promise what insurance will pay. The claim stays between you and your insurance company.
